About us
Queen Street Quilts is an Adelaide based family business that began trading in 2007. It all started when Angela, a practising psychologist and self-confessed workaholic, decided it was time to develop a hobby to nurture her creative side! Born with a ‘needle in her hand’ and a life long love of textiles, it was a trip to Vietnam that sparked her passion for the rich colours and varied textures of Vietnamese silks, quilting, patchwork and applique.
And so, Queen Street, named after the road on which I live, was born.
I have since visited Vietnam each year and developed trading partnerships with a cooperative in Hanoi, a fair trade workshop for people with disabilities in Hoi An and three small family run businesses.
My husband, Peter Szekeres, a retired mathematician, looks after the figures and we share the excitement and challenges of managing the website!
Queen Street supports two charities
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of our products is given to two charities: Reaching Out in Hoi An, Vietnam and SPELD, South Australia.
Reaching Out is a fair trade workshop set up by a group of people with disabilities to showcase high quality handicrafts made by disabled craftspeople.
SPELD SA is a non-profit organisation that provides services and advice to assist people with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties.
